Critical Mass
Medieval-Renaissance Vocal Chamber Ensemble

Our newest ensemble, Critical Mass, is a mixed-voice, small-scale chamber ensemble of 12 select singers. Our music making focuses on 500 years of choral music from the twelfth to seventeenth centuries (think Gregorian chant to Monteverdi). Our process is highly collaborative and members will sing their voice part with 1 or 2 other singers.
Critical Mass meets Thursdays from 4:15 to 6:15 in the Concert Hall, with one additional hour of rehearsal, to be determined by members. Our performance repertoire will feature music by composers such as Machaut, Hildegard of Bingen, William Byrd, Claudio Monteverdi, Tomàs Luis de Victoria, and Orlande de Lassus.
Auditions will take place on Monday, September 1 (Labor Day). Rehearsals will begin Thursday, September 4, 2025. Auditions will consist of a) vocalises, b) a pre-assigned excerpt of ensemble music to prepare, and c) a brief solo excerpt of your choice in any style.
