New/Changed Housing Accommodations

Student Disability Services (SDS) staff works with students with disabilities to identify accommodations that allow equal access to college programs and services – including housing. The accommodations process is designed to be collaborative, but also requires advanced planning.

The overall steps in the disability accommodations process for housing are:

  1. Submit an accessibility request in mySwarthmore (via Accommodate).
  2. Provide disability documentation to SDS.
  3. Meet with an SDS staff member and discuss your request.
  4. SDS staff reviews your request and notifies you of decision(s).
  5. SDS notifies the Office of Student Engagement (OSE).
  6. OSE works with the student to identify housing that meets the approved accommodation(s).

Important information:

  • The Office of Student Engagement does NOT make any determinations regarding approved accommodations. Any new requests or changes to approved accommodations must be processed through Student Disability Services.
  • It may take your medical provider up to a few weeks to fulfill your request for documentation. Please review SDS’s documentation guidelines and contact your provider as early as possible.
