Fulbright Language Evaluations

Applicants to Fulbright awards proposing projects in Spanish-speaking countries must submit a Foreign Language Evaluation (FLE) form as part of their application.

  • Students and alumni who have taken Spanish courses at Swarthmore: Language evaluations will be provided by the Department of Spanish.
  • Students and alumni who have not taken Spanish at Swarthmore: In order to provide an evaluation, applicants must complete a placement exam to assess their proficiency in all four language skills: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. A statement clearly specifying no prior academic relationship with the student/alumni will be part of the evaluation; such a statement may negatively impact the candidate’s application.
