About the Code of Conduct

All Swarthmore Admissions Volunteers must sign and abide by this code of conduct.

 

Swarthmore College Admissions Office Volunteer Code of Conduct

By signing the following code of conduct, during your activities as a volunteer with the Swarthmore College Admissions Office, you agree to:

  • Treat anyone you engage with in the course of volunteering, including prospective and admitted students and College staff, with respect and civility.
  • Engage appropriately and maintain appropriate boundaries with prospective and admitted students in person, via email, in virtual meeting spaces, and over the phone.
  • Abstain from contacting or initiating contact with prospective or admitted students on social media, LinkedIn, or in virtual spaces (such as video game servers).
  • Abide by the Swarthmore College Mandated Child Abuse Reporting Policy.
  • Keep information about prospective and admitted students strictly confidential including, but not limited to:
    • Student names and contact information listed in emails from the Admissions Office or provided by the student
    • Conversations, experiences, or anecdotes a student shares during email correspondence or in an interview or conversation
    • The interview evaluation form and any URLs linking to the interview evaluation form
    • Notes taken during interviews
    • The content of interview evaluation submissions
  • Only disclose information about a student in one of three settings:
    • In direct communication (email or spoken conversation) with a staff member of the Swarthmore Admissions Office (such as an email to admissionsvolunteers@swarthmore.edu).
    • In the written evaluation for that student’s interview
    • In compliance with the College’s mandated child abuse reporting policy
  • Commit to being inclusive and advancing the mission of Swarthmore College in all facets of your volunteer work.
  • Abide by Swarthmore College’s Notice of Non-Discrimination.
  • Resolve any conflicts in a transparent and open manner.
  • Follow deadlines to the best of your ability.
  • Notify the Admissions Office of a change in active email address by emailing admissionsvolunteers@swarthmore.edu.
  • Acknowledge any potential conflicts of interest and recuse oneself when appropriate. 
  • Recognize that your actions will reflect on, but do not speak for, Swarthmore College and the Swarthmore Admissions Office.

By breaking this code of conduct, I understand that my involvement as a volunteer with the Admissions Office will discontinue immediately.

Last updated August 15, 2023. If changes are made to this code of conduct that will take effect during a volunteer cycle, all active admissions alumni volunteers will be notified via email at all email addresses the Admissions Office has on file for them.
