Instrument Collection
The Dance Department embraces a variety of world traditions in its technique and repertory classes. In order that the music aspect of these courses be most fully and accurately integrated into the experience of performance, a large collection of instruments has been acquired.
There are full complements of a variety of West African and Caribbean drums, a collection of Japanese taiko drums, West African xylophones, several tabla drums from India, and grand and upright pianos.
Production Experience
The Department is fortunate to have the support of a production staff that includes lighting, sound, and costume designers, as well as professional stage managers/crew heads. Dance students participating in the performance aspect of the department can learn a great deal about the design and practical logistics of production and are welcome to do so, both through course work and as a consequence of their dancing. Students are also encouraged to develop practical production skills by working on various crews for work study. More information about staff and programs is available on the Lang Performing Arts Center website.
