Course Special Majors
Special Major
The program for a Special Major comprises a minimum of five credits in dance coursework. The two disciplines in this major may be philosophically linked or may represent separate areas of the student’s interest; the strongest applicants for the Special Major will be able to articulate why they are proposing a Special Major rather than two separate programs of study (a double major). Examples of past special majors include: Dance and Anthropology, Dance and Art, Dance and Biology, Dance and Education, and Dance and Psychology. Special Majors are encouraged to take at least one dance class, to be included in their program of study, before applying. For students applying for the Special Major with a Dance Studies focus, this should be any course offered in Dance Studies; for students applying for the Special Major with a Choreography focus, this should be DANC 011. Dance Lab I: Making Dance.
All Special Majors will design their programs in consultation with a faculty advisor.
