Electronic Waste Disposal Guide

This webpage provides guidance on how to dispose of common electronic products and appliances on campus. For more information on discarding additional types of waste, view our Waste Disposal Guide.

  • INK cartridges should be deposited in the repository in Shane lounge, on the first floor Parrish Hall. 
  • BATTERIES should be deposited in the repository in Shane lounge, on the first floor of Parrish Hall. 
  • Smaller functioning ELECTRONICS can be picked up by EVS year-round. Contact Workbox to arrange a collection. Likewise, small departmental electronics can be dropped off in the bin located at the West Fieldhouse Lane Parking Lot behind the Print Services building. In the case that the items do not fit into the bin please contact Work Box. Do not leave items outside the bin. 
  • Large departmental ELECTRONICS  that do not fit in the drop-off bins can be collected by EVS and stored in the basement of Parrish. Exceptionally large amounts of e-waste should be stored by the department until they can be picked up by PAR directly from the department's storage. Special pick-ups can be arranged through Workbox
  • NEW!  Small NON-FUNCTIONING ELECTRONIC APPLIANCES  are now being specially collected!  A new drop off bin has been located at the West Fieldhouse Lane Parking Lot to collect your smaller items. If your items are larger and will not fit within the bin please email Workbox. Do not leave items outside the bin. 
  • ATTENTION : Swarthmore Information Technology requires that College staff and faculty notify ITS of non-functional college-provided devises and follow their instructions on properly decommissioning these devices. College-owned electronic devices must go through ITS at the end of their life cycle. This includes but is not limited to work laptops, tablets, desktops, and monitors. 
More Information on Non-Functioning Electronics

If you have functioning or non-functioning electronics (DVD players, computer monitors, printers), appliances (dorm fridge, space heaters), electronic cables, or scrap metal, the College will collect and store them for special recycling. Contact Workbox to have it picked up or for drop-off locations. Materials will be picked up from campus for special recycling by PAR Recycle Works

NEW! There is also a small collection bin for smaller sized electronics in the West Fieldhouse Lane Parking Lot behind the Print Services building.
