foster behavioral and structural change by raising campus environmental conscientiousness.

The Green Advisors (GAs) are student workers of the Office of Sustainability who work to encourage sustainable and socially-just lifestyles as Residential Peer Leaders. The GAs support environmental justice & climate crisis education/action, work to reduce campus waste generation in close partnership with Environmental Services, support the campus composting system, serve as liaisons to the Sustainability Advocates program, and much more. The GA program supports a multitude of approaches to environmental issues, and encourages dialog within and beyond the program to understand these differing perspectives.

About the GA Program

GA MISSION: Green Advisors serve as campus leaders and advocates for greater environmental consciousness. Through the Green Advisor program, we strive to promote and practice intersectional sustainability, climate and waste justice, and campus resiliency in order to foster a greater sense of responsibility and hope among our community. We do this through the following roles:

RESIDENTIAL PEER LEADERS:

  • Serve as student leaders and advocates for greater environmental consciousness within the residential campus community
  • Advocate for sustainable habits in residential halls and assist with yearly move-out
  • Engage residents in critical conversations pertaining to intersectional sustainability, climate resilience, and wellness around climate anxiety

ZERO WASTE EXPERTS:

  • Serve as compost sorters and zero waste advocates
  • Identify areas for improvement in campus waste systems
  • Expand zero waste education in residential halls and across the campus community

CAMPUS & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FACILITATORS

  • Work in partnership with staff and faculty on departmental initiatives
  • Create community partnerships and bridge sustainability opportunities
  • Represent the Green Advisor program at campus-wide events, working groups, and other stakeholder conversations

Zero Waste

The Green Advisors aim to reduce the College's waste and, when waste is produced, to divert as much of it as possible away from the Covanta incinerator located in Chester.

A key task for the GAs is to manage the College's compost system. GAs sort contamination out of campus compost before it is picked up by our hauler, Kitchen Harvest

Help our community to develop more environmentally just practices by reducing your waste whenever you can, and by learning how to compost & recycle!
