Controlled Substances
Swarthmore College (the College) is committed to performing innovative research of the highest quality. In certain circumstances, this research may involve the use of a controlled substance. In this instance the College requires compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and guidelines regarding the use of controlled substances by the Faculty/Researcher and those involved in performing the research.
There are legal requirements applicable to the use of controlled substances, including, but not limited to: acquisition, registration, prescribing, dispensing, administration, storage, recordkeeping, authorized users, diversion control and disposal. This policy establishes standards for Faculty/Researchers and their staff and students to aid in meeting these requirements and to assist in compliance with applicable regulations. This policy applies to research involving the use of controlled substances at any Swarthmore facility, or by a College faculty member, staff or student within Pennsylvania.
