Chemical Hygiene Plan
The Swarthmore College Chemical Hygiene Plan was created to fulfill a requirement from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) laboratory safety standard, 29 CFR 1910.1450, and to provide the hazardous chemical user with basic safety information regarding handling, storage and disposal of chemicals. This plan applies to all laboratory work at the College where chemicals are utilized. The intent of this document is that it be used as a resource, to increase safety support and guidance, in the laboratory setting. It informs laboratory faculty and staff of their rights and obligations under the federal OSHA standard, as well as provides information, training and other resources that will aid in the goal of achieving a safe work environment in the laboratory.
