Alumni Story: Julia Wrobel '10

Liliya Yatsunyk and Maria Newport ran into Julia Wrobel '10 at Chilly Cheeks Trail Run.
After graduation, I lived in Philadelphia for three years conducting immunology research at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). At CHOP, I performed in vivo research with a mouse model of Macrophage Activation Syndrome, which is a serious and sometimes deadly illness that can be a complication of many autoimmune diseases. Working in biomedical research inspired me to go back to school for biostatistics at Columbia University in New York City, receiving my Masters in 2015. I am currently a PhD candidate in biostatistics at Columbia, using statistical techniques to better understand physical activity and brain imaging data.
When I graduate from Columbia, I hope to use statistical analysis and machine learning to improve health outcomes.
In January 2012, I ran Chilly Cheeks Trail Run together with my West Philly Runners group. There I ran into Dr. Liliya Yatsunyk and Dr. Maria Newport. It was so nice to see familiar faces from Swarthmore!
