Sarah Boyer ’96 received tenure in the biology department at Macalester College. She teaches Biodiversity
and Evolution, a course in her department’s core sequence, as well as upper-level courses in biogeography, evolution, and biodiversity. Boyer takes a phylogenetic approach to questions in evolutionary biology, using molecular and morphological data. With support from the National Science Foundation and National Geographic, she currently focuses on evolution of arachnids in the Wet Tropics of Queensland, Australia. Boyer works closely with undergraduates in both lab and field settings and has published papers—most recently in The Journal of Arachnology—with student co-authors. Boyer earned a master’s at the University of California–Berkeley, and a doctorate from Harvard University. She joined the Macalester faculty in 2006.
