Jon Lorsch ’90
Jon Lorsch ’90 was appointed the new director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). Lorsch will manage the institute’s $2.4-billion-dollar budget, which funds basic research in areas such as cell biology and genetics as well as programs designed to diversify the biomedical and behavioral research workforce. He received a doctorate in biochemistry from Harvard University and was a postdoctoral fellow in biochemistry at Stanford University. He was a professor in the department of biophysics and biophysical chemistry at Johns Hopkins University from 2000 to 2013. Lorsch has also received grants from NIGMS, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. He joined NIGMS this summer.
