Ann Cudd ’82 was recently appointed as a University Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas,
where she has taught in the Department of Philosophy since 1988. She also teaches in the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, where she was director from 2001–08 and was instrumental in developing its graduate program. In addition, she has been associate dean for the humanities since 2008. She is the author of Analyzing Oppression (2006), which was awarded the 2007 Byron Caldwell Smith Award, and co-author of Capitalism For and Against: A Feminist Debate (2011). She has co-edited two other books and published more than 40 philosophical articles on topics ranging from the nature of rationality to sports metaphors. Cudd has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Hall Center for the Humanities, in addition to being a recipient of a W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. Between 2002 and 2010, she served on the executive committee of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the university.
