Getting to New York City and Washington, D.C.
Because of its close proximity to Philadelphia, Swarthmore is within easy reach of New York City and Washington, D.C., among other key sites along the East Coast. Getting to both starts with taking the SEPTA R3 train from campus to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. From there, Amtrak can take you the rest of the way.
However, Amtrak is not the only option for getting to New York. One alternative, also available at 30th Street, is to take the SEPTA R7 train [pdf] to Trenton, where you can connect with NJ Transit to NYC's Penn Station. Combined tickets for this trip can be purchased from machines in 30th Street Station.
Another is to take the bus. One option is to take the R3 train from campus to Market East Station, then connect at the Greyhound bus station just a block from the train station.
Additional options for buses to New York and elsewhere are also available, including service from BoltBus or MegaBus for discounted, one-way tickets to NYC when purchased online.
