Virtual Walking Tour: Swarthmore College, the Underground Railroad, and Beyond
Join Swarthmore College librarians on a virtual walking tour of campus to learn about the families behind some of Swarthmore's most familiar landmarks — such as Parrish, Magill, and Clothier. We'll explore their connections to abolitionism, African-American education, and the Underground Railroad, and discuss how these legacies relate to Swarthmore College's efforts across time to create a diverse and inclusive environment.

- Color the Phoenix [pdf]: While his first physical appearance on campus is relatively recent, Phineas the Phoenix has been with Swarthmore nearly since the days of its founding. Did you know that it is rumored he was involved with both the burning down and rebuilding of Parrish Hall in the 1880s? Bring Phineas to life and send us a picture of your masterpiece at events@swarthmore.edu or by using #SwatAlum on social media. We might feature your creation on this page!
- Recreate the Crum Regatta in your bathtub! One of the most distinguishing traditions of the College — for both its uniqueness and its ridiculousness — during the Crum Regatta students attempt to race their homemade boats down the Crum Creek. For this physically distanced twist, try creating a boat for your bathtub or sink. Looking for inspiration? Check out this PBS Kids tutorial. Let us know how it goes by emailing events@swarthmore.edu or using #SwatAlum on social media.
