Garnet Gatherings

Department Overview

Garnet Gatherings, a monthlong series of virtual events, safely brought the Swarthmore community together to celebrate what makes Swarthmore special for each of us. While Garnet Gatherings 2020 has concluded, you can still explore our Garnet at Home virtual activities — including recorded tours and family friendly activities — and watch the 2020 McCabe Lecture from entrepreneur Brian Wong '96.

Were there any in-person Garnet Weekend events?

No. Over the summer, Interim Vice President for College Advancement Liam McAlpine announced that in-person events for Swarthmore alumni and families, including Garnet Homecoming and Family Weekend, would be canceled or postponed until further notice. As we considered how best to serve our alumni and families while maintaining our commitments to the on-campus community, we recognized that the only way to protect the health and safety of all is to encourage physical distancing and reimagine our programs accordingly.

Can I visit campus?

Effective Aug. 31, the Swarthmore College campus is closed to visitors until further notice. This restriction includes College grounds, the Crum Woods, playing fields, and tennis courts. Read President Val Smith's message to the community about the new campus visitor policy.
