Swarthmore College Chinese Major Wins First Place in Mandarin Speech Contest in Taiwan
We are delighted to share the news that on November 16, 2021, Adam Boxer (2023), a Chinese and Economics double-major at Swarthmore College, won first-place in the "Mandarin Chinese Public Speaking Contest for Foreign Students" held by the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan (國父紀念館外籍學生華語文演講比賽). This year the annual city-wide event drew a total of 33 student participants from Vietnam, Japan, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Peru, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, South Korea, South Africa, and the Czech Republic. Adam Boxer spoke on the topic of Global Responses to Covid-19. His presentation in fluent Mandarin earned him the first prize of NT$20,000 (US$719).
