Honors Biochemistry Major Jack Nicoludis '12 presents research at the Third International Meeting on G-quadruplexes and G-assembly in Naples, Italy

Jack Nicoludis presented his senior Honors thesis research on the interaction between N-methyl mesoporphyrin IX and human telomeric DNA at the Third International Meeting on G-quadruplexes and G-assembly in Naples, Italy on June 29th, 2011. Assistant Professor Liliya Yatsunyk also attended the conference and gave a talk about her work on using parallel-stranded DNA duplexes to form parallel-stranded G-quadruplexes. Swarthmore's Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant and Sigma Xi Chapter provided funding for the trip.

Jack gave oral presentation at the 8th Undergraduate Fall Research Symposium held at Haverford on Saturday September 24 2011. 95 students and faculty from the departments of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology (Geoscience), Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology from Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ursinus and Swarthmore gathered together to discuss their science.  Jack's talk was titled "N-metyl porphyrins: hyghly selective G-quadruplex DNA ligands". This work will constitute part of Jack's honor thesis.
