Eman Quotah ’95 received a 2013 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for an excerpt from her manuscript, God’s Handwriting. The historical novel, set in 13th-century Baghdad, follows a
calligrapher’s son and an orphan girl before and after the Mongol invasion. Quotah’s fiction has appeared in Pindeldyboz, Gargoyle, and Amazing Graces: Yet Another Collection of Fiction by Washington Area Women. While working on God’s Handwriting, she was named John McClelland Historical Writing Resident by the Espy Foundation and was awarded a grant by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. She works for a consulting firm in North Bethesda, Md., where she manages a federal website for people who work with families and youth. She is currently writing her second novel.
