Sexual Health Services

"Sexual and reproductive health services on college campuses should be designed to promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students by providing them with the resources, support, and information they need to make healthy choices regarding their sexual health. "

Services related to the topic of sexual and reproductive health available at the health center  include (but are not limited to) preventative health care services, sexual health education, advice and prescriptions for contraceptive medication and techniques, help with menstrual issues, STI testing and treatment, other counseling individualized to each patients' questions and concerns. Any care received at the health center is considered confidential.  

General preventative care services available: 

  •  STI screening (testing when no symptoms are present) is recommended at least once per year or with any new partners for sexually active people.  
  • Pap testing for cervical cell changes recommended for AFAB at age 21. Abnormal results may be clinically managed by a referral to a specialist for exam and treatment.
  • HPV vaccination

Other services: 

  • If a person is experiencing a problem affecting their sexual or reproductive health, students can call the health center to make an appointment for evaluation, treatment and management

General information about STI testing and insurance:  

  • STI testing completed at the health center is processed through insurance and sent to an outside lab, Labcorp. Please check with your health insurance company to determine eligibility with Labcorp. There are several locations in the community (not affiliated with Swarthmore College) that can provide confidential STI testing at low or no cost and without use of insurance. 
  • Results are provided in a confidential manner over secure messaging on the student health portal or in person. Test samples may include collection of urine samples, site specific swabs and/or blood tests.
