Liz Derickson ’01

Liz Derickson '01 is the Associate Dean of Academic Success. She works individually with students who experience academic difficulties. Examples of student academic dilemmas include struggling academically, choosing an academic major, managing health/personal issues, or returning from a leave of absence. Dean Liz is the assigned dean for transfer students, and for a sub-set of sophomores, juniors and seniors.

In collaboration with academic departments and colleagues across campus, Dean Liz coordinates the process by which students apply for academic majors - the Sophomore Planning process. In collaboration with campus partners, Dean Liz coordinates programming that supports student academic well-being.

Dean Liz supervises the staff of the following offices within the Division of Student Affairs: Student Disability Services, Fellowships and Prizes, Student Academic Mentor (SAM) program, Pre-Health Advising, and Pre-Law Advising. Liz's supervisor is Dean of Academic Success Eric Jensen.

Dean Liz speaks Spanish, English and Cape Verdean Creole. Se habla español. Ta fala krioulu di Cabo Verdi. Dean Liz served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Cape Verde Islands (West Africa). She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Swarthmore College and an M.A. in Sociology from Princeton University.
