Clare Hyre is the Associate Director of Sustainability in the Office of Sustainability at Swarthmore College. At Swarthmore, Clare manages the Green Advisors and the Sustainability Advocates programs, as well as the Worthmore Free Store. Likewise, Clare leads the implementation of Swarthmore's zero waste commitment and the College’s commitment to sustainable food systems. Clare previously served as the Sustainability Program Manager.
Prior to joining the Office of Sustainability Clare has over 10 years’ experience working in sustainability, farming, farm and environmental education, and food justice programming. She has worked at numerous educational nonprofits across the country, many in the Philadelphia region. Most recently she served as the Senior Program Manager at Teens For Food Justice where she managed food justice programming at Title I schools across New York City.
Clare is committed to collaborative and community-based sustainability solutions and will support and advise a number of student research projects through the President’s Sustainability Research Fellowship and additional Office of Sustainability student internships.
Clare received a BA from Guilford College with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies and Religious Studies, with a minor in Quaker Studies in 2008 and graduated with a MA in Food Studies with a focus in Food Systems from New York University in 2016.
