Apply for Funding
The President’s Fund for Racial Justice provides funding to support curricular and co-curricular programs that focus on transformative racial justice and engaged scholarship that improves the lives of Black and Brown people, and members of other marginalized groups. We invite faculty and staff to apply for funding by submitting a proposal using one of the following forms:
Curricular proposals are awarded funding to support learning experiences or activities tied to classes that focus, in whole or in part, on racial justice. Awarded funds support projects intended to develop a new course or enhance an existing course. Faculty can receive awards up to $2000 which includes up to $1500 for course enhancements (e.g., guest speakers, field trips, project materials) and $500 for course development (Note: Proposals submitted by more than one faculty member for a team-taught course are eligible for $500 course development funding for each faculty member). Preference will be given to faculty who have not previously received support from the President’s Fund for Racial Justice.
Deadline for submissions: Submissions for curricular projects scheduled for the 2025-2026 academic year are due by January 27, 2025. There is also an opportunity to apply for funding in the middle of the academic year to fund projects for the spring semester that may have come together during the fall semester.
Co-curricular proposals are awarded funding to support campus programs and events that center topics related to racial justice. These events are typically open to, and engage, the broader Swarthmore campus community. Past co-curricular awards have provided funding for guest speakers, panels, workshops, and performances. These awards are not limited to a certain funding amount, though we do encourage anyone applying for funding that exceeds $5000 to reach out to discuss ideas and potential funding sources across campus. Preference will be given to faculty who have not previously received support from the President’s Fund for Racial Justice.
