Naming the Phoenix
Phineas was nameless when he first appeared on campus. After a couple of years on campus, the fiery bird decided that he wanted a name like everyone else — so he asked the students to give him one. After students suggested names and voted for the best one, the Phoenix waited anxiously for the announcement. It finally came at the all-campus pep rally on February 19, 2010, when it was announced that the students had chosen Phineas for his name!
Phineas was delighted with the choice, as you can see! The name selection was covered by Swarthmore's homepage as well as chronicled by this video feature.
