Nick developed a love of music and played trumpet in his school's concert band and jazz ensemble. He received his trumpet from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and continues to work for the foundation, participating in television and newspaper interviews to promote their work and organizing fundraisers to help other children. He studied Italian at a language camp while in high school and is interested in learning Arabic, among other languages.
Nick took time off from college during spring semester of his sophomore year and spent a lot of time reading history and literature. He also went to Fargo, ND in late March 2009 to help with flood relief efforts, an experience that has inspired him to spend time after college working with relief efforts such as wildfires and floods.
Nick spent this past summer working on three different organic farms in Tuscany, Italy that also had agritourism programs. He experienced Italy through working the land, harvesting olives, fruits and vegetable, and waking each morning to the sounds of donkeys and roosters and to the spectacular views of the mountains and countryside.
