Desheane completed the rigorous International Baccalaureate program at his high school. When asked why he wanted to come to Swarthmore he replied, "intellectual stimulation without intimidation." He enjoys discussing opinions with others while being respectful of their opinions. In high school, Desheane was a member of the track and cross country teams and was a volunteer tutor. He was also a Student Ambassador for his school.

At Swarthmore, Desheane is active in the Tango Club, ABBLE (Achieving Black & Latino Leaders of Excellence) and SASS (the Swarthmore African-American Student Society).
