DuPont Brass opens the season at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 6th in the Lang Performing Arts Center during an open door event with food trucks.

The Swarthmore College Department of Music has unveiled its 2024-2025 season, featuring a distinguished lineup of world-class artists, scholars, and student performances.

Highlights for the 2024-25 season include DuPont Brass, Aubrey Logan, Jeremy Dutcher, Jasper String Quartet, Roderick Williams, Julius Drake, Hans Lüdemann and Trio Ivoire, as well as numerous student performances and ensembles.

The season’s programming offers an array of free events, open to the public, that promise to captivate audiences with diverse performances, residencies, and masterclasses.

The department’s commitment to providing access to world-class performances and educational experiences is exemplified through the Featured Artist Series, which showcases artists not only as performers but also as educators. This series includes masterclasses, solo performances, and collaborative engagements with Swarthmore College student musicians.

This year’s Featured Artist Series includes the exceptional talents of Aubrey Logan (Oct. 27-28, Nov. 17), Roderick Williams (Nov. 21-22, Feb. 7), and the Jasper String Quartet (Oct. 21).

In addition, the department will present a series of masterclasses, lectures, and performances by renowned musicians, including Julius Drake (Feb. 7-8), Trio Ivoire (March 1), Jeremy Dutcher (March 21), and the DuPont Brass (Sept. 6).

In terms of student performances, the music department will once again present a wide variety, including:

  • Various performances from the eight student ensembles (Chinese Music Ensemble, Chorus, Critical Mass, Gamelan Semara Santi, Garnet Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble), as well as the Fetter Chamber Music Program, throughout the fall and spring semesters.
  • The Lab Orchestra performing Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” with special guests, the Jasper String Quartet on Dec. 7. Delight in Peter, the Wolf, the Bird, the Duck, the Cat, the Grandfather, and the Hunters—all performed and narrated by Swarthmore College students.
  • The choral programs at Swarthmore, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr Colleges engaging in a unique and collaborative project to jointly create a 10-minute choral work on themes of hope, fear, and faith. In March, singers from both choirs will gather with the composers, as well as student collaborators from area high schools, for an opportunity to sing and connect with one another as the creative process reaches its close.
  • The popular Lunch Hour Concerts, which take place weekly in Parrish Parlors throughout the academic year.

Unless otherwise noted, all concerts and supplementary programming will take place in the 450-seat Lang Concert Hall.
