Celebrating the Lang Music Building Rennovation with an Organ Recital by Mark Loria '08
The Swarthmore College Department of Music and Dance with The Gil and Mary Stott Concert Series present a Celebration of the Lang Music Building Renovation, featuring a recital on the restored Lang Concert Hall pipe organ with Mark Loria ’08, Principal Organist of the Cathedral Basilica, Philadelphia on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 8pm in the Lang Concert Hall.
A native of Staten Island, NY, Mark Loria was appointed Principal Organist of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, in 2017. His responsibilities include playing for the hundreds of liturgies throughout the year and support of the various choirs in residence. He has previously served as Organist and Accompanist of Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton, NJ and as Associate Organist of the Church of Saint Jean Baptiste in New York City.
As a proponent of new music, he is also an associate conductor and board member of Orchestra 2001, with whom he has led on tours to the United Arab Emirates, China, Cuba, and most recently the American South. He has appeared as guest conductor with the New York-based ensemble mise-en, whom he has led in world premieres of music by Elisabeth Harnik, Eric Lyon, Karen Power, Brian Fennelly, and Reiko Futing.
He holds degrees from Swarthmore College and Westminster Choir College and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists.
