Additionally works for the Busara Center for Behavioural Economics in Kenya, a common site for summer internship for students interested in economic development. His research is primarily focused on conducting field experiments utilizing behavioral science principles to impact decision-making, particularly emphasizing pro-social behavior and addressing various issues pertaining to public policy, development, and poverty.
Currently chair of the Economics Department with a research focus on macroeconomic policy in Sub-Saharan Africa. Is not only knowledgeable but can be a resource of summer research opportunities. Stephen O’Connell holds the Gil and Frank Mustin Professorship of Economics at Swarthmore College. He served as the Chief Economist of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2014 and 2015. His extensive publications focus on macroeconomic policy and growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. Notably, he co-edited the two-volume study titled "The Political Economy of Economic Growth in Africa, 1960-2000" for the African Economic Research Consortium.
