Fieldwork: Tsengel Tuvan 2002
Tsengel Tuvan is a dialect of Tuvan spoken by approximately 1,500 people in the extreme western and very mountainous corner of Mongolia, adjacent to China and Kazakstan. The Tsengel maintain strong traditions of singing, musical instrument playing, storytelling and animistic religious practices.
