James C. Gaither Junior Fellowship Program, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
Description
Provides an opportunity for eight to ten individuals who intend careers in international affairs to have a substantive one-year experience working in Washington, D.C.
Selection Criteria
- If not a U.S. citizen, must be eligible to work in the U.S. during the fellowship
- Must be a graduating senior or an alumnus who has graduated within a year of application
- Demonstrated career interest and substantial coursework in international affairs, but with varied major courses of study, such as political science, history, economics, sociology or anthropology
- Applications are judged on the quality of the written essay, related academic study and/or work experience, grades, recommendations, and personal interviews.

How to Apply
Request an application by emailing mmandos1@swarthmore.edu or calling 610-328-8363 and return completed application to same email address. The application will become available during the first week of October.

- Two letters of recommendation (Recommenders can submit their letters by email to mmandos1@swarthmore.edu.)
- Transcript: The Fellowships and Prizes Office will obtain an unofficial copy of your college transcript. If you are selected as one of Swarthmore's nominees, you will need to secure an official transcript from the Registrar's Office.

Selection Process
- After submitting your application materials, you will be interviewed in person (or remotely if you are unavailable in person) by members of the Fellowships and Prizes Committee.
- When all interviews are completed, the committee will select two Swarthmore nominees and notify you of your status.
- You will have an opportunity to make final revisions to your application before submitting it to Carnegie on January 15.
- Carnegie will notify you to tell you if you have been selected to interview (by telephone).
- Final selections are made in March and announced in April.
