Swarthmore College Bulletin editor Jeffrey Lott will step down at the end of December. He will move to a part-time job at the College, serving as writer and editor of a book about Swarthmore to be published on the eve of the College’s 2014 sesquicentennial.
Lott came to the College in 1990 and became editor-in-chief in 1992. During his tenure, the Bulletin has grown from a largely black-and-white publication of 56 pages to a full-color, 72-page magazine that has won numerous awards. Lott has been a national leader among alumni magazine editors, speaking often at conferences and helping adopt a set of principles and practices to guide the profession. He also served on the Communications and Marketing Commission of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, where he led a successful effort to create the first national readership survey for alumni magazines.
“It has been a singular privilege to edit your college’s magazine,” Lott recently wrote to Swarthmore’s 86 class secretaries. “Along the way, I have met and worked with hundreds of fascinating students, faculty, and staff members, and especially alumni.”
