Bruce Lamb ’85 has received two awards for his efforts in fighting Alzheimer’s disease—the Alzheimer’s Association’s National Civic Award for bringing awareness to the disease and to the importance of research funding with the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Ride, a cross-country bike ride which he conceived, and the Jennifer B. Langston Community Service Award from the Cleveland Area Chapter for his role in furthering the organization’s activities. An associate staff scientist at the Lerner Research Institute and associate professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Lamb identifies factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s disease and could be targeted by new drugs and therapies. He has also received the association’s 2008 Investigator-Initiated Research Grant and the 2005 Zenith Fellows Award. During the ride, more than 100,000 signatures were gathered in support of the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act, which would increase funding for research to $2 billion per year, and Lamb cycled 600 miles through parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
