Robert George ’77 recently received the Honorific Medal for the Defense of Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of human rights. The McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, George lectures on constitutional interpretation, civil liberties, and philosophy of law. He was chosen to receive this award for his intellectual work in defense of human rights. George’s writings identify grounds of rational principle for honoring the inherent and equal dignity of all members of the human family. A prominent legal and political philosopher, George is also director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions and author or co-author of numerous books, including Body-Self Dualism in Contemporary Ethics and Politics; Embryo: A Defense of Human Life; The Clash of Orthodoxies: Law, Religion, and Morality in Crisis; In Defense of Natural Law, and Making Men Moral: Civil Liberties and Public Morality.
