Katie Davenport ’05
Katie Davenport ’05 recently received a teaching fellowship from the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF) that will provide her with financial and professional development for up to five years. The foundation aims specifically to improve the quality of science and mathematics education in high schools across the nation. “By investing in early-career teachers, KSTF is nurturing dedicated, life-long educators,” says Angelo Collins, KSTF’s executive director. Davenport is currently teaching biology at Central High School in Philadelphia. She completed a master of science degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. “Teaching is more than a profession,” Davenport says. “It is a vocation. Every day, I am honored to be called a teacher.” At Swarthmore, she was awarded the Leo M. Leva Prize in Biology. Previously, Davenport taught for two years at Princeton Latin Academy.
