Such a Gem I was fascinated and informed by your spring 2018 issue on color. Surely, one of the reasons garnet was chosen as a Swarthmore color was because garnet mines were common in the area. This semiprecious stone was commonly used as an abrasive—to smooth out the rough places and make them shine. Very pertinent to our experience as students. Thanks again for your excellent focus on color. As an artist, I found a lot to love about it.—BARBARA SEYMOUR ’63, Media, Pa.
