Major
Students who prefer more intensive work in Black Studies may pursue a major in Black Studies. The Black Studies Course major and Honors major will require students to complete 8 credits and 10 credits, respectively in the major, including a 1-credit capstone/thesis for the major, and a 2-credit thesis for the Honors major.
Course Major Requirements
Prerequisites:
- BLST 015: Introduction to Black Studies
- One additional Black Studies or Black Studies-eligible course
Requirements:
- 8 credits in Black Studies (includes the two prerequisites)
- A “Theories of Black Studies” course
- A “Methods and Ethics” course
- A 1-credit capstone/thesis
- Experiential Learning (e.g., internship), Abroad or Domestic
Honors Major Requirements
Prerequisites for admissions to Honors major (counted toward the 10-credit Honors major):
- BLST 015: Introduction to Black Studies
- One additional Black Studies or Black Studies-eligible course
- Average grade of B+ in all Black Studies and Black Studies-eligible courses at the time of application. Students are expected to maintain a B+ average in their Black Studies courses.
Requirements:
- 10 credits in Black Studies (includes the two prerequisites)
- A “Theories of Black Studies” course
- A “Methods and Ethics” course
- Two, 2-credit preparations for the Honors major, including a two-credit thesis
- A 2-credit thesis
- Experiential Learning (e.g., internship), Abroad or Domestic
