Her responsibilities include advising students on the study abroad process, contributing to pre-departure and re-entry programming, supervising student workers, and providing administrative support, especially with the online credit approval system.
Umi graduated from Swarthmore College in 2019 with majors in Psychology and Art. She appreciates the collaborative environment at Swarthmore and the interdisciplinary and intercultural opportunities. She is thrilled to rejoin the Swat community as a staff member!
After graduation, Umi spent two years living and working in Japan through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. She taught English and art classes at an elementary school in Samani, a seaside town on Japan's northernmost island, and participated in school life with her students and colleagues. The JET Program deepened her understanding of the ups and downs of living in another country. She hopes to draw on her experiences in Japan to support Swatties as they navigate school and life abroad.Umi's interests include drawing, reading, and writing. In her free time, she often takes long walks in Swarthmore, tries different restaurants in Philadelphia, and visits family and friends in her hometown in Massachusetts.
