Karolina Hicke is a Visiting Assistant Professor of German at Swarthmore College. Her research and teaching focus on twentieth and twenty-first century German literature and culture, with an emphasis on questions of migration and minority discourses as well as memory and gender. She received her Ph.D. in 2023 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a thesis on the Intersections of Migration, Memory, and Gender in Contemporary Jewish Writing in Germany. She is currently working on a book project that investigates ways in which authors from minoritized communities ally and collaborate across a variety of genres ranging from writing tandems, edited volumes, and activist projects to the repertoire of the Berlin Gorki Theater.
