Dr.  El-Burki is a cultural and media studies specialist. She holds a B.A. in Communication from Temple University, an M.S. in Public Communication from Drexel University, and a Ph.D. in Communication, Culture and Media from Drexel University. Her scholarship focuses upon social life, media representation and the perpetuation of social hierarchies. Her work further investigates intersectionality and the relationship between historic inequality and social reality.  She is an expert at intercultural communication and culturally sensitive engagement with an academically sound, real world understanding for what works.

In her role as Assistant Dean and Director of the Intercultural Center, Dr. El-Burki provides advising, support and advocacy for various student identity groups and individual students to enhance campus and community life.
