Participating in the Democratic Process
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
As members of a vibrant academic community, we are all engaged in the work of developing and disseminating knowledge that helps shape the world around us. One of the most powerful ways to apply that knowledge is by participating in the democratic process, whether that means voting, or, for those who cannot vote in U.S. elections, exploring other ways to engage in our shared civic life.
Our Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Committee has put together several resources to help guide you through the election, including voting FAQs, details on polling locations, and other helpful information. GOTV has also organized shuttles to take students from campus to local polling locations throughout the day on Election Day.
I encourage all members of our community to exercise flexibility when it comes to schedules on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Employees who are unable to vote outside of their regular working hours or who serve as election officials should discuss their schedules with their managers in keeping with the College’s Election Day Leave policies.
We may not know the outcome of the election for several days, if not longer. As we await the results, I encourage everyone to prioritize their well-being. In addition to the normal campus resources we offer students, faculty, and staff, several events are scheduled to help individuals reflect on the day and its implications.
By voting, we express our hopes, concerns, and values — we help shape the future. I encourage each of you to take the time to consider the issues that matter to you and to make your voice heard.
Sincerely,
Val Smith
President
