Neal Halloran
Hometown: Laurel, MD
High School: Atholton High School
Intended Major: English Literature
Minor: Engineering
Possible Career: Undecided
Neal entered Swarthmore intending to become an engineer. He took several classes towards that major and interned with an engineering firm before deciding that he wanted to major in English. In high school Neal was a counselor at a summer camp for children, ages 5 to 10, with cancer. He also was a volunteer counselor for the Boys and Girls Club and the Hero's Lacrosse Program. He was the recipient of the Howard County Poetry and Literary Society Award, the Journalism Award and the US Marine Corps Athletic Leadership Award.
At Swarthmore he has been a member of the lacrosse tearm and volunteers with the team's youth clinic. This winter he will use his Evans Funds to travel to New Zealand to participate in an environmental program with Global Volunteers. Neal hopes to combine his interest in writing with his continued interest in engineering by seeking a job in an engineering firm as a technical writer after graduation.
