Honoring Maxine Singer
Dr Maxine Frank Singer passed away on July 9, 2024 at 93 years of age. She graduated with High Honors in Chemistry from Swarthmore College in 1952 and went on to become a pioneering researcher and advocate for access and inclusion in science.
The Howard lab is grateful to have a special connection to Dr. Singer. In 2001 her family donated money to build a research lab in her honor within the chemistry department in the Science Center. The donated space houses the Howard Research Group. Rather than have a formal dedication ceremony, Dr. Singer asked to spend the day with the undergraduate researchers in the lab (pictured above). We are so thankful for the time we got to spend with this inspiring and gracious role model.
