Resonant. Elegant. Intimate. Iconic.

In her curator's essay, Professor of Art Syd Carpenter uses these words to describe the work of the artists in the List Gallery's latest and virtual exhibit, Four Points of View: Alumni Making Art. The exhibit, originally planned to coincide with Alumni Weekend as part of the College's year of Celebrating Black Excellence, opened virtually this week and features the work of Shameika Black '11, Harold Buchanan '69,  Leandre Jackson '75, and May Thomas '76.

A significant part of this year's celebration included the 50th anniversary of the Black Cultural Center (BCC). Associate Dean and BCC Director Dion Lewis, who initiated the project, notes that each artist "contributed to the vitality" of the BCC, and that "art enables us to interpret history, transform culture, and strengthen community."

"It is my pleasure to unite these four alumni artists in a virtual exhibition documenting the inventiveness and persistence of the artists in the Swarthmore community," Carpenter says.
