McCabe Lecture by Patrick Awuah '89
Patrick Awuah '89, founder and president of Ashesi University in Ghana, delivered this year's McCabe Lecture, "The Liberal Arts and the Future of Africa." In his talk, Awuah shares his thoughts about the challenges and opportunities Africa faces and why he has come to believe more strongly than ever that a liberal arts education is fundamentally important to Africa's future.
Awuah, a 2015 MacArthur Fellow, graduated with degrees in engineering and economics from Swarthmore and was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree in 2004. He also earned an MBA from UC-Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Awuah is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative (a branch of the Aspen Global Leadership Network) and a member of the United States Council on Foreign Relations.
