Kei Saotome '11 first author on a June 2016 Nature paper
June 2016: Kei Saotome '11 is the first author on a paper published in Nature titled "Crystal structure of the epithelial calcium channel TRPV6" (doi:10.1038/nature17975). Kei received a PhD in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Columbia University in the lab of Alexander I. Sobolevsky and is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Scripps in LaJolla California. The Nature paper describes a crystal structure of a mammalian ion channel called TRPV6, a project central to Kei's PhD work. While at Swarthmore College, Kei completed a research thesis in the Howard lab that focused on the use of EPR spectroscopy to probe conformational changes of the membrane bound protein M2 from influenza A virus.
