Tyrone Dunston Named New Director of Environmental Services

Tyrone Dunston

Earlier this month, Tyrone Dunston joined the Swarthmore community as director of environmental services (EVS).

Dunston comes to Swarthmore from Drexel University, where he was responsible for the custodial care and waste management for all residence halls, the recreation center, and Greek housing. He is also a 13-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps who further developed his leadership skills in healthcare settings, including at Temple University.

In a message to the community, Vice President for Facilities and Capital Projects Stu Hain described Dunston's strong supervisory experience as well as his experience in training, budgeting, and quality assurance, among others.

"Our EVS technicians, EVS leadership team, and the selection committee found Tyrone engaging, a clear communicator, and knowledgeable," said Hain, who chaired the committee. "Friends from the Dean’s staff, Auxiliary Services, and Facilities who interviewed Tyrone also agreed that he is a terrific choice for the position."

“Swarthmore attracts a wonderfully diverse group of students and has a great faculty and staff," Dunston says. "I am excited about being able to become part of the community and to care for the buildings so everyone feels comfortable as they live, work, and play in those buildings.”
