Kaori Kitao Lecture
Satyan Devadoss, professor of mathematics at Williams College, gave the 2014 Department of Mathematics and Statistics Colloquium T. Kaori Kitao Lecture. The renaissance was a time when art and science were not polar opposites, but extensions of one another. The advent of the enlightenment era, however, introduced a dualistic tension between the visual arts and scientific research. Today, the study of nature is serving as a bridge between these worlds once again. Heavily infused with imagery, Devadoss examines several examples at the intersection of art, visualization, and research mathematics.
