Osazenoriuwa Ebose '15 Sets Shot Put Record at Penn Relays
Update (5/17/15): Ebose was selected to compete in the shot put and discus throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, seeded first in the shot put and ninth in the discus throw among a field of 22 competitors in each event.
Update (5/3/15): Ebose broke her own Centennial Conference and school record in the shot put for the second time this spring by recording a toss that sailed 49-feet, 8.25-inches, which ranks first nationally in Division III. Ebose also shattered the school record in the discus throw with a toss that ranks eighth in the nation.
Osazenoriuwa Ebose '15 of the women's track and field team set the Centennial Conference and Swarthmore College shot put record at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday, Apr. 23, at Franklin Field. The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the country.
Ebose's record-setting toss sailed 46-feet, 10.75-inches to place sixth overall among 50 competitors, trailing only Division I student-athletes from Penn State, Northern Illinois, South Florida, Cincinnati, and Army. She smashed her previous school record of 43-11.25, which she recorded at last year's Penn Relays. Ebose's throw also ranks third nationally in Division III.
A sociology and anthropology major from Scotch Plains, N.J., Ebose is capping one of the most impressive careers for a track and field athlete in College history. She was named the Centennial Conference Field Performer of the Year at the 2015 Indoor Championships after winning shot put with a toss of 44-feet, 8.2-inches, an indoor track school record which was four feet better than the runner-up finisher. For her career, Ebose, has been named All-Centennial Conference seven times (indoor and outdoor), including four times in the shot put.
Ebose will look to add to her accomplishments next weekend at the 2015 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Muhlenberg College (May 1-3).
